FAQ - Freaquently Asked Questions
How does Vrida work?
Our arms can move the ceiling lamp between 12–150 cm. You can see the different lengths below, and the numbers in parentheses show how far the lamp can be shifted from the existing ceiling outlet/ceiling hook. There are weight recommendations to avoid loading the existing ceiling outlet/ceiling hook with more than 15 kg. You’ll find these recommendations at the bottom of the page. 0.5 meters (12–25 cm) 1.0 meters (20–70 cm) 1.5 meters (33–117 cm) 2.0 meters (38–150 cm)
Installation is very simple — that’s the smart thing about Vrida! The arm has integrated wiring and hangs from the existing ceiling outlet/ceiling hook, without causing any damage to the ceiling. The Vrida 1 and Vrida 2 models have a ceiling outlet at the end of the arm where you attach your lamp, just like usual. No prior knowledge or new holes in the ceiling are required. Vrida Light comes with a complete pendant set with an E27 socket, where you can either use a stylish bulb or attach any lampshade designed for an E27 socket.
Since the arms hang solely from the ceiling hook, the lamp can be moved around the room even when you rearrange the furniture temporarily or permanently — for example, when adding the extension leaf for a dinner party.
The short answer is: It depends on the length and model, and if you follow the recommendations at the bottom of the page, you will stay under a 15 kg load on the existing ceiling outlet/ceiling hook.
All lamp arms/extension arms function as a lever, and the load on the existing ceiling outlet/ceiling hook increases the further the displacement is from the original ceiling outlet. Vrida comes in different models and lengths; we have developed weight recommendations, and if you follow these, the ceiling outlet/ceiling hook in your home will not be subjected to more than 15 kg. (15 kg is a common maximum load for a ceiling outlet.) It is your own responsibility to ensure that your ceiling outlet/ceiling hook can handle the load. At the bottom of the page, you will find PDFs with weight recommendations for the different models and lengths.
We wanted to see what load the Vrida arms themselves could handle, so at our request, Intertek performed third‑party tests where they applied a 15 kg load at the maximum displacement. The arms passed the test, but this weight is not something we recommend using, as it places a high load on the ceiling outlet and the solid wood arm flexes slightly under that weight.
Yes, we have two models for two ceiling lamps – Vrida Duo and Vrida 2. These make it possible to get two lamps from a single ceiling outlet! Read more under the products in our shop.
Yes, we have many customers who have their ceiling outlet/lamp outlet on the wall and have used Vrida to relocate their lamp. What you need is a hook in the ceiling and for the electrical wiring to be extended to that hook. Since every home is different and needs vary, we recommend that you send us a photo and a brief description of where you want the lamp to be placed to info@vridaofsweden.com
We do not recommend using Vrida with stretch ceilings or soft ceilings. Vrida has a support end that presses up against the ceiling on the opposite side of where the lamp is hung. For those who have a fixed section in the stretch ceiling, such as a beam or similar that provides a solid surface, it may work — but we recommend contacting us first to confirm whether it is suitable for your specific ceiling.
All our Vrida arms have a support end pointing in the opposite direction from where the lamp hangs. To ensure there is enough space for the support end, you need at least the following distance between the ceiling outlet / hook and the wall for each model when the arm is extended to its maximum offset from the existing ceiling outlet:
Vrida 1
0.5 meter: 19 cm
1.0 meter: 24 cm
1.5 meter: 24 cm
2.0 meter: 44 cm
Vrida 2
1.0 meter: 24 cm
1.5 meter: 24 cm
2.0 meter: 44 cm
Vrida Light – 23 cm
If you offset the arm less than the maximum, you will need the corresponding additional centimeters from the wall to ensure the arm fits properly.
The question isn’t entirely easy to answer, as it depends on the angle of your ceiling and the weight of the lamp. We’ve put together more information here: https://www.vrida.se/lampa-i-snedtak/ — you’ll also find the post under the Inspiration page.
Vrida is ideal for anyone who wants a lamp arm or extension arm with integrated wiring that’s hidden inside the arm. With Vrida, you avoid having cables hanging on the outside. Many also choose Vrida because it’s a stable solution that can support heavy fixtures and doesn’t droop like a ‘fishing rod’ from the ceiling. We also offer an adjustable support end that ensures the arm always stays parallel to the ceiling. Our customers also appreciate that Vrida comes fully assembled, with no electrical installation required. It’s simply ready to use from the start!
Vrida 1, Vrida Duo and Vrida 2 are delivered in white. Vrida Light is available in white, black, and untreated aluminium.
We have many customers who use a pendant lift lamp together with a Vrida lamp arm. What you should be aware of is that this adds more pressure than what we have calculated in our tables for the maximum allowed load, depending on how far you offset your lamp (to stay under 15 kg). It is always your own responsibility to ensure that your ceiling outlet can handle the load.
